So many young people suffer from a lack of responsibility and an inability to make accomplishments in their life. Without focus and goals, they roam from one thing to another without prospect for the future. The Introduction to Semi Driving at Mount Carmel Youth Ranch is a help for these troubled teens. Not only do they learn safety and caution, trust and confidence, but they also can come away with an improved ability to take the CDL test with confidence on there own when they graduate from the program. This accomplishment improves their self-esteem and teaches them integrity. Our goal is to improve their opportunity to get a job and the financial ability to care for their own needs. The teen takes charge of his future, can pay for his college education with summer work and is ready to embrace the responsibilities of adulthood.
The students are trained at Mount Carmel Youth Ranch through a "hands-on" approach, they are then encouraged to study the CDL manuals on their own. When they are ready the can chose to take "Mock" tests and/or quizzes from the experienced drivers on the ranch. Next they are taken out into the semi and shown how every part of what they learned is put into practice. They accompany real drivers while they do their deliveries and are carefully tutored on all the aspects of semi truck driving. When the young man is ready he may be given an opportunity to "practice" what he has learned with an experienced drive assisting him in an off road driving practice experieince.
